Paid cloud playtime is live for eligible Insiders

Xbox began a cloud-playtime preview on October 21 for eligible Xbox Insiders who do not have an active Game Pass subscription. Participants can buy a block of streaming time, then use it with supported devices and eligible cloud-playable games.

This is a limited test, not a general release. Xbox says availability, purchasing options, eligible games and features can vary by market, device, account eligibility and preview ring. A player must own a supported cloud-playable game, unless the selected title is free to play.

The three introductory hour packs

10 hours$3.99$0.40
25 hours$7.99$0.32
50 hours$11.99$0.24

Xbox describes the packs as ad-free and says they include shorter waits and high-quality streaming. Unused playtime remains available until it is consumed; the announcement does not describe a monthly expiry.

The Insider test and November Game Pass changes are different

Xbox announced in September that Game Pass cloud streaming will move to monthly hour allowances in November: 15 hours for Ultimate, 10 for Premium and five for Essential. Subscribers who use those included hours are expected to be able to buy more.

The October preview instead tests paid access for Insiders without an active Game Pass subscription. Xbox has not said that the preview's introductory prices will become the final public prices, or that subscriber top-ups will use the same packs.

Xbox also references a separate Insider test of cloud gaming supported by advertising. The paid packs are described as ad-free; readers should not treat the free-with-ads test and paid playtime as the same access option.

What remains unannounced before the broader rollout

Xbox still has not published a complete market list, supported-device matrix, eligible-game catalogue or universal November launch date for the paid-hour model. The Insider post also does not promise that every preview ring or account can participate immediately.

Treat the three prices as preview evidence, not a worldwide tariff. Before buying, check the Xbox Store on the participating account for the offered currency, pack, game eligibility and device support.
